Y50

New venue above Cafe 50 on Ekamai 21 caters mostly to locals with Thai talent playing acoustic and light rock. Similar interior to Cafe 50 below which doubles as an antique store. Virtually everything you see in Y50 is for sale. Probably not the place to go without some locals to show you around. Definitely not a mingling joint. Basically grab a table, order some som tum, and sit and listen.

  • Tunage: live Thai talent but not overpowering
  • Dance Floor: no
  • Cocktails: reasonable menu but recommend you stick with beer and bottles
  • Drinks: another Johnnie haunt
  • Price: low
  • Location: Ekamai Soi 21
  • Seating: variety of seating (i.e. it's all antiques for sale) holds about 100
  • Ambiance: chillaxin' for locals but might not appeal to farang
  • Pickup: perhaps but you stand a better chance of picking up a stomach flu
  • Overall: gets a good crowd almost every night but limited to local appeal

Mike Sightings: I've been here a few times but mostly because it is close and has some cheap Thai food. Not a spot I'd take friends or expect a chance encounter with Ms. Right.

First time to see your web site... I'm a farang man living in BKK, and had a great time last night with Thai friends at Y50... Only farang in the place, but no one seemed to mind, including me. Very good Thai band that actually played a wide range of Western songs through the evening, before closing with a lot of well-done Thai pop standards. Very nice, comfortable sofa and other seating makes it easy to get cozy... Agree, not a place to pickup... But a great place to go with the TGF... Most everyone there ordering JWR bottles, but cocktails to be had. Live music continued until past 2 am... and they closed about 2:30 on a Monday night.
PS - Thanks for this great resource about Ekamai-ThongLor...
