Tuba

Yet another bar and restaurant playing off the antique style common with others in the area including Y50 and Shades of Retro however Tuba does it surprisingly well and makes for the most comfortable of the bunch. The menu is a solid collection of Italian and Thai favorites and the drink menu rivals the few true cocktail bars in the area (i.e. Koze and To Die For). The interior mimics a collection of 70's style living rooms giving each group a private and unique feel. The location might be a bit off for those looking for a night out on Thonglor but actually Tuba is just across the Soi from several smaller Thai bars and short walk from Santika and Blog 9. Tuba has a pool table and welcomes patrons playing cards or watching TV in the livingroom.

  • Tunage: standard background unrecognizable chillin' music
  • Dance Floor: no
  • Cocktails: a good line up of cocktails served up in larger than life martini glasses but make sure you specify the brands when ordering (i.e. Bombay martini) or you'll get knock-off brands
  • Drinks: beer and bottles are available but this place is best enjoyed with a nice cocktail or glass of wine
  • Price: moderate with a 2 for 1 happy hour every day
  • Location: Ekamai Soi 21
  • Seating: variety of antique furniture makes for some comfy and some not so comfy options able to hold 100+
  • Ambiance: the antique thing has been done before but Tuba pulls it off better than most and the unique styling of each section makes each visit a new experience
  • Pickup: groups stick to themselves here so do your pickup before you come
  • Overall: nice atmosphere and cocktails make this an interesting option

Mike Sightings: I quite like Tuba and find myself there once every couple of months. Then again I do live fairly close but for me they've done a good job breathing life and creativity into a room otherwise filled with 70's yard sale material.
